Kalshi lists Bitcoin price prediction markets covering daily threshold contracts ("Will BTC close above $X today?"), weekly close markets, and longer-dated horizons. Settlement is on the CME's CF Benchmarks BRR (Bitcoin Reference Rate) at 4 PM ET — the same rate used by CME bitcoin futures.
BRR settlement is good news for traders: it's unambiguous, published, and not manipulable by a small exchange's order book. The risk is that BTC can move 3-5% in the final hour of trading, which is enough to flip a 90¢ NO contract into a loss. Bitcoin markets are more volatile than they look.
Favorite-longshot mechanics work on BTC but with lower win rates than weather or sports — typically 85-90% on 90¢ NO contracts, against an implied 90%. After fees this nets out to about 1.0-1.5% per trade, smaller than weather. The reason: BTC tail moves are larger and more frequent than weather forecast errors.
The most reliable systematic trade in BTC isn't favorite-longshot — it's pre-event vol selling: FOMC days, CPI release days, and ETF flow data days routinely overprice the realized BTC move by 20-40%. Selling vol (taking the favorite NO side near the strike) into these consensus events compounds well over a quarterly cycle.

The CF Benchmarks BRR (Bitcoin Reference Rate) at 4 PM ET. This is the same rate used by CME bitcoin futures and is calculated from trade prices on Coinbase, Bitstamp, Kraken, itBit, and LMAX. It's published immediately after the 4 PM fix.
Daily threshold markets close at 4 PM ET when the BRR fixes. Weekly markets close at the end of the relevant trading week. No after-hours trading on Kalshi crypto.
About 1.0-1.5% per trade after fees on 88-95¢ NO contracts, with win rates around 87-90%. Smaller than weather because the underlying is more volatile. The dominant systematic edge in BTC isn't favorite-longshot but pre-event vol selling on FOMC and CPI days.
